What is Efficient Consumer Response in Baltics?

ECR Baltic

Let's start with a definition: ECR Baltic is an Efficient Consumer Response Initiative in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. ECR Baltic is a collaborative retailer-manufacturer platform with a mission “to fulfill consumer wishes better, faster and at less cost”. It is a non-profit organization which aims to help retailers and manufacturers in the FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods - Food/Non-Food) sector to drive supply chain efficiencies and deliver business growth and consumer value.

ECR Baltic is a member of ECR Europe.  Since November 2010, ECR Europe is the regional platform for collaboration of the Global Consumer Goods Forum.

In ECR Baltic we are concentrating on 3 main working  directions, which is bringing supply chain efficiencies, consumer focus and people development and networking.

Our key competences and user groups: Supply Chain Committee, Category Management / Shopper, Returnable assets standardization (pallets and crates), EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), Global Data Synchronization and Master Data Quality, Shrinkage, OSA (On Shelf Availability), VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory), Global Scorecard, GS1 Standards.

How we are different to classic (horizontal) Industry associations like Chamber of Commerce, Retailers, Food manufacturers and other associations?

1. ECR Baltic is a "vertical" association. Our members can be all companies involved in value chain from farmer to manufacturer to retailer and solution providers and standards organizations supporting  ECR processes with the main aim to serve final consumer in most efficient way.

2. "1+1=3" we all know classic fights frequently sparking on different mass media in Baltics between manufacturers and retailers in getting the bigger part of the pie! This we leave for 1 to 1 contract negotiations between retailers and manufacturers. Our aim is to bring them together to grow the demand, bring supply chain efficiencies and cut unnecessary costs from supply chain which is possible only in collaboration between retailers and manufacturers. Just to try to repeat ECR success in Europe, bringing cost savings and value for tens of billions Euro since 1994.

3. We do not lobby governments/authorities for better tax regimes or introduction of laws restricting any of the parties to conduct fair business. However we would like to have legal framework and practice in place for B2B and B2G information exchange (EDI) enabling for example business processes automation.

4. We respect and comply to competition and anti trust laws also by informing and warning our members and participants about it before, during and after meetings and events.

5. Baltic scale - we work in ECR Baltic working groups thus enabling scalability of commonly agreed best practices and standards simultaneously in all three Baltic States.
